Space to think, make and develop practice
Creative work needs time, attention, curiosity and the willingness to try things without always knowing where they will lead. My work with artists and creative organisations is grounded in the rehearsal room and in the reality of making work with other people.
These workshops create space to step away from routine, explore ideas, examine working habits and reconnect with the process of making. They are not about imposing a particular way of working. They are about opening up possibilities.
I use theatre exercises, improvisation, movement, group work, creative tasks, conversation and reflection. Depending on the group and the purpose of the session, this can also draw on professional theatre practices such as devising, physical theatre and character exploration.
The rehearsal room offers a useful model. It is a place where ideas can be tested, changed, questioned and developed. It allows people to respond to one another, take risks, make mistakes and discover things through the process itself.
This work can support:
- individual artists developing their practice
- theatre-makers and facilitators looking for fresh approaches
- creative teams working together
- arts organisations exploring collaboration
- groups beginning or developing a new project
- teams that need time to reflect on how they work
I am interested in the questions that sit underneath creative practice. How do we listen to one another? How do we make space for different voices? How do we receive and respond to what others offer? How do we keep an idea alive long enough to discover what it might become? How do we work through uncertainty rather than rush past it?
The aim is to create a thoughtful, practical and generous space where artists and creative professionals can experiment, reflect and return to their work with renewed confidence, curiosity and direction.
The work can stand alone as a focused workshop or form part of a longer programme of professional and creative development.
